The second volume of Brownswood Recordings ‘Worldwide Family’ series comes courtesy of LA native Kutmah, London’s newly transplanted DJ, NTS show host, producer, visual artist and eternal beat-seeker. Kutmah is a king amongst cratediggers; a true musical iconoclast.
With ‘Worldwide Family Vol. 2’, Kutmah brings back the art of being a selector in every sense. So much so, he decided to create a compilation with his fellow DJ in mind. A wonderfully deep collection of tracks that each merit your undivided attention and appreciation… featuring unreleased heat from Hudson Mohawke, Flying Lotus, Samiyam, The Darkhorseman (Dibia$e & Jonwayne), Mono/Poly and plenty of new heat from up and comers Lapti, Seven Davis Jr., Groundislava, ESMK and Tehbis.

Robert Glasper Experiment - Move Love (B.Lewis Remix)
Anyone that follows me on Twitter will know that Robert Glasper’s ‘Black Radio’ has been one of my most anticipated albums of 2012. A while ago Robert Glasper gave producers the chance to remix ‘Move Love’ with the chance to win a record piano sample from him to use royalty free. (For more information on the competition check my post on The Find Mag). B.Lewis has just upped his remix and it’s sounding pretty damn good.
Black Radio drops on February 28th. I couldn’t recommend it more. One of the best LPs I’ve heard in a long long time.
In time for Valentine’s Day, Lucky Dragons released a limited run vinyl of 500 on the Swill Children imprint. Featured on this 12” is this glitchy warped out remix by Matthewdavid. Grab a free download here. Listen to the rest of the release below.
Only a day late, but French beatmaker Onra has re upped his killer track ‘Perfect Match’ for Valentine. The ’80s funk bassline and vocal loop “Gotta find a girl that’ll be just right for me” was a Summer staple for me. Grab the free download here.
Damn… this song. Insanely good 140track from my housemate Neka. Beautifully minimalistic, with the trippy haunting vocals of Shura. Catch Neka on the Tape-Echo show every other Friday on Sub FM from 2-4pm.
Shlohmo did such a fine job of remixing The Weeknd, that even they wanted a studio version. Requested a few days ago via The Weeknd’s Tumblr the slowed down drawn out beats, gives the track a whole new mood. Keep an eye on Shlohmo’s Soundcloud for a free download of the track.
If you enjoyed the remix of Wen Uuu I posted the other day, then be sure to check Shlohmo ‘Vacation’ EP, which features three brand new tracks. Catch that remix on, ‘Vacation Remixes’ , which features Nicolas Jaar, Airhead of James Blake’s trio, Salva, Teebs and more putting their spin on Shlohmo’s tracks. Pre-order the 12’ here.
Resisting classification, the music is located at some unspecified point between the bass heavy, propulsive rhythms of Scuba, the sparse, atmospheric broken beats of Appleblim and the deep, dubdisco sparkle of Ewan Pearson; just three of the names ‘Getting Closer’ features collaborations with.
What I really like about this remix, is that Close has lost none of Fink’s incredible voice, something which unfortunately James Blake had done with the D’Angelo cover I posted previously.
His upcoming debut album ‘Getting Closer’ will feature collaborations and remixes of Scuba, Little Dragon and Joe Dukie from Fat Freddy’s Drop, one I’m particularly looking forward to hearing. Preview clips of 3 of the tracks can be found on the Getting Closer website and a free download of this track can be found here.
From Shigeto… I was super inspired from all the love in the air for Jay Dee’s Birthday today. Got me thinking about what an inspiration Detroit music is. Then got me thinking about other Detroit artists. Then got me thinking about Aaliyah, another amazing talent that we lost way to soon. So I made this. Inspired by Aaliyah, Jay Dee and Detroit. RIP AALIYAH - RIP JAY DEE
