Portrait Of A Ghost Drummer

Ghost Drummer is a multidisciplinary project that explores graphic qualities in process of playing on a drum kit. Motion-captured movements become a visual map over a time revealing fragile rhythm structures and invisible notations behind energetic instrumental solo. ‘Portrait of a Ghost Drummer’ expands the understanding of drummers activity from purely auditory experience to spontaneous visual performance.

With this thought in mind, designers Ryan Atkinson and Stephan De Lange and their everlasting love affair with Grotesk fonts decided to democratically determine which one got designers’ juices flowing the most.

They designed a poster inviting people to vote, with the promise that their name would appear on the final product, and posted it on various design blogs and social media sites.

This information was then translated into statistical data, and used as the basis for the design, where we used typographical grids to layout all the information.

Poster Tribune is a bi-anual newspaper devoted to posters. It contains 12 pages of illustrated articles and 3 posters (65 cm x 96 cm). Posters are equally artistic creations, communication tools and witnesses to social, commercial and artistic trends from specific periods. Poster Tribune examines such posters and breathes new life into these short-lived street exhibitions. Through these articles, Poster Tribune promotes the international and Swiss contemporary graphic scene, and reports on the poster’s history and latest news.
